The First Watch in My Collection
When I was first thinking about starting a watch collection, I really didn't know much. I knew some name brands, some idea of which expensive watch I'd like to own someday, but not much else. I started my journey looking for watches to purchase by poking around eBay and Craigslist. I also started watching local auctions. That's where I found the first watch I ever added to my collection, a 1978 Seiko SQ 7546-7119.
I paid $12 for this watch and a pile of other junk watches. I didn't really know what I was getting at the time, but the watch felt special to me. I didn't know that SQs weren't really that collectible, that Seiko was, at one time, a preeminent quartz watch king, or whether or not the watch worked. I paid for a battery replacement, saw the watch kick to life, and never looked back.
This Seiko SQ is the corner-stone of my small, budget collection of watches. I think I'll enjoy it's blue-black dial for years to come.
